Satellite TV Testimonials: DIRECTV or DISH Network? |
|---|---|
DISH Network [Dennis D., Louisiana] |
|
| I live in the country and the local cable was really lousy
and there was no HDTV programming available. I first got the model 811 HD receiver and recently added
the new VIP 211 so there is never a need to rent videos or go to the movies. I am extremely picky and
Dish does it for me.
Editor's note: The remarkable growth of HD programming is a serious benefit of both DISH Network and DirecTV. Both are aggressively acquiring new satellites to bring us even more beautiful HD programming. At our HD Programming Comparison page, if you sort by HD Channels, you can see the wide offering of HD channels available right now. |

DISH Network [Shay W., Florida] |
|
| Israel HOT TV - Eli Yatzpan!
Editor's note: Eli is a hoot - a very funny comedian who does stand up comedy, TV shows and films as well. He also played Achmed (role as a cab driver) in the 1994 movie called "Chain of Command". His best stuff is the stand up comedy he does on Israeli TV. If you speak a foreign language, both DIRECTV and DISH Network are going to surprise you in a very good way - with their WIDE range of choices for foreign language programming! Here's the lineup of the international channels on satellite TV for DISH Network and DIRECTV. |

DIRECTV [Kimberly S., New York] |
|
| I bought a 52" DLP Hi-Def TV a few weeks ago and I just
got DIRECTV installed. I just watched the ESPN Home Run Derby in HD! I won't say it, but
women that visit your website will understand what I'm talking about. Get baseball in HD!
Editor's note: You're right - I'm the lead editor here and my wife just laughed when I told her about your testimonial - she said no further explanation is needed. Anyhow, I suspect you're thrilled with the high quality picture and sound that DIRECTV is feeding to your new big screen TV. By the way, both DISH Network and DIRECTV carry ESPN HD - and they both showed major league baseball's all-star break programming (home run derby, all-star game and more) in HD! Compare the complete HDTV programming lineups for DISH Network and DIRECTV. |

DISH Network [Joseph R., California] |
|
| I went for DISH Network because, for the programming that I
wanted, I got more channels for less money. The DISH DVR I got records more than the DIRECTV DVR
that I looked at. If you want to get the best, go for DISH Network.
Editor's note: The DVR wars are heating up! DISH Network and DIRECTV keep making DVRs with bigger and bigger hard drives so we can save more shows. Who's clearly winning here? Consumers! And don't assume that either DISH Network or DIRECTV is always the cheapest one in every case - decide which programming and equipment options that you want and then compare prices. A visitor suggested this - a satellite note page for you - it prints in black and white and has space for you to take some notes as you go. |

DISH Network [Ralph E., Illinois] |
|
| Da Bulls! Channel 429! Picture quality makes
my neighbor drool, or should I say dribble!
Editor's note: Shortest testimonial we've ever received! Wherever you live, DISH Network includes regional sports coverage in their Top 60 Plus and above DISH Network programming packages (they also offer premium sports packages). In Ralph's case (Illinois and most of Iowa, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin) DISH Network carries Comcast SportsNet Chicago (at no additional cost) and shows over 250 regular season games for the White Sox, Cubs, Bulls and Blackhawks. |

DISH Network [Mike R., Texas] |
|
| I got DISH Network installed about a month ago. I got
the DISH receiver that has a dual-tuner DVR. Like you said in your DVR section on your
website, it is totally cool and flexible. You forgot to also say that you can record two new
shows while you watch a third one you DVR'd (recorded) earlier - that's way cool! I haven't
watched a TV commercial since it was installed!
Editor's note: DISH Network's 625 receiver, in addition to being a dual-tuner DVR, holds up to 100 hours of saved shows, has picture-in-picture (PIP) built-in, records and replays Dolby® digital sound to your stereo or home theater system, it can output to 2 TVs at the same time and it's free. Here's our DVR page that Mike mentioned. |

DIRECTV [Lorie R., Alabama] |
|
| We used to have cable but we were unhappy with the service
and support. They also increased all their prices and it was getting really ridiculous so we
went with DIRECTV. DIRECTV has been great - they answer the phone and you get treated like
you're a person and that every customer is valuable. I recommend DIRECTV to anyone.
Editor's note: Lorie's complaint about prices is a very common theme for submissions we receive - cable rate increases are consistently higher than satellite each year. Satellite's 100% digital signal (better picture), more channels, better service and lower price beats cable! See the JD Power survey of user's to see the difference. |

DISH Network [Judy T., Indiana] |
|
| I didn't know it was available before I got DISH Network,
but they have interactive games for my kids too - they love it! I chose DISH Network because
they also include two Disney Channels, 2 Nickelodeon Channels, TV Land and several other channels for
kids included in their most basic (and lowest priced) package.
Editor's note: DISH Network's interactive features include sports scores, news, weather, horoscopes, lottery results and games and learning for kids. |

DISH Network [Rita and Henry R., Florida] |
|
| We live in an RV campground in South Florida most of the
year. Once a year, my wife and I drive our motor home back up to South Carolina for a few
weeks. We were surprised to learn that both DISH Network and DIRECTV will install satellite
TV in an RV - and that we can use it in Florida and when we're in South Carolina! That's really
great! We went with DISH Network because it was a little cheaper for us.

DIRECTV [Ken J., Nebraska] |
|
| I live in Nebraska now, but I grew up in Beaver Falls, PA
(just outside of Pittsburgh). My dad was a Steelers fan and I grew up watching Franco Harris -
number 32 - the greatest football player who ever lived. No matter where I live, I'll never
stop loving my Steelers. I got DIRECTV because of the NFL package. Network TV shows the
Steelers here a couple of times a year because we usually get the AFC West game - makes me crazy!
I hate the Broncos! No more AFC West games for me! I've got DIRECTV. And I got my
Steelers back! I have more than a few friends here that are Steelers fans - they come over and
watch at my house - it's like being back home again! And I record every Steelers game on my
DVR - every time. I usually watch the game again during the week (and fast forward through
the commercials).
Editor's note: More info on DIRECTV "NFL Sunday Ticket" which also includes 100+ NFL games in High Definition when you get their HD package as well. |

DIRECTV with HughesNet Satellite Internet Access [Steven F., Florida] |
|
| DIRECTV was my choice because I'm an Internet junkie!
I used to have cable Internet access but quite a few people on my street also had it and it became
slow. The cable company swears that's not the cause, but they never did give me a good
answer. Cable was kind of expensive anyway, so I switched to HughesNet (formerly known
as Direcway) - DIRECTV's companion Satellite Internet provider. In 2004, we had some
hurricanes come through here - my neighbors' cable Internet was out for 22 days - they were
all coming to my house to check their email online. Turns out the cable company has a
separate power grid for the cable network of relay boxes and those were low priority after the
storms. As soon as my house's power came back (which powers my TV and computers) - and
I could start up my computer - I had Internet access through HughesNet and, of course, I had
Satellite TV as well.
Editor's note: You can order HughesNet Satellite Internet Service with or without also ordering DIRECTV's Satellite TV service. |
